Always contented (Note from GH. I have a lot of correspondence with brethren in Cuba. Many are very impressive in their faith and humility. Brother Hernandez is a Sports journalist and sent me this article. Think about it the next time you drink a coke.) My objective is not to promote Coca-Cola, but I can't help but admit that I like it a lot. Sometimes I am walking down the street and the intense heat gets to me. I look in a store window and there it is. I tell it "goodbye" and keep on walking. Unfortunately, my earnings simply don't provide enough for the luxury of a refreshing Coca-Cola. I would love one but I can't have one. There are other needs that have priority. What happens to me can happen to any other Cuban. It is always the case that we can't drink or eat everything we want. We must learn to be contented with what God gives us. The apostle Paul puts it this way, "I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need." (Philippians 4:12,13) Jesus was quite explicit. "Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or, 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble." (Matthew 6:31-34) Today we don't have everything on our table that we would like. But we do have the peace which God gives. Perhaps one day our situation will change, but if it doesn't, it won't be such a big deal. We are heirs of the heavenly Jerusalem. There we will have no needs or hunger. If you happen to read this message in another part of the world where you can buy what you see in the store windows, give thanks to God and be grateful.
